Sandra and Dayla,

Today, Athena is four months old and in my care for the last two months.  Even in such a short span of time, I cannot imagine my life without her. Thank you for providing me the opportunity to love, nurture and teach such a special animal.

The most important reason for choosing Wolves Den Ranch was its focus on breeding for temperament, a defining quality of a well-bred German Shepherd Dog. Athena exemplifies WDR’s commitment; she is eager, not aggressive; she determined, not stubborn; she is teachable, not obstinate; she curious, not obnoxious; and she is loving, but not needy. This temperament allows her to be flexible, which makes it possible for me to take her with me on quick errands or long drives to South Florida (four hours). She likes her routine, but is accepting of change.

You could not possibly know the amount of people who comment on her demeanor, beauty, intelligence, and obedience.  Professionals (my vet, my puppy class instuctor) find her well socialized - characteristic of learned breeders starting that process from birth.  She receives family and friends well, and is appropriately cautious around strangers, barking only rarely, but delivering a loud and clear message. Named after the Goddess of Wisdom and War, Athena’s temperament models her namesake’s – loyal, intelligent and caring, but capable and willing to protect her loved ones if needed.

Bragging to my dad recently, I said that I felt I was doing a good job training Athena, to which my dad responded, “That may be part of it, but in truth, you got a good dog.”  My dad knows dogs, he owned shepherds, he’s a tough critic….I was so PROUD of my dog. Thank you.

Did I mention Athena is (only) four months old today?  We have so much joy ahead of us, as do the people who have the pleasure of meeting her.  I will always be grateful for you both.  Keep doing what you are so obviously good at – breeding quality German Shepherd Dogs for the rest of us to enjoy.

Sincerely,

Shannon Sands Sanchez

PS.  Training update: Crate training was a snap thanks to your instructions; potty training is complete (with a rare Oops!); she responds to “sit,” “lie down,” “off,” “leave it,” “back up,” “be sneaky,” “shake,” “fetch,” “bring it,” and “drop it” and she won’t take food, a drink, or a toy without being told “okay” or “take it.”  Sorry, just had to brag!

PSS:  I love the Wolves Den Ranch sticker for my car (everyone asks about it). Would it be possible to get one or two more? Thanks.
